ABOUT THE BOOK
There was a time when Jesus told a lawyer what the greatest commandment of the law was and then Jesus said, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.” So obeying Him is one way He (and we) know we love Him. I believe what I’ve heard author/speaker Kevin Zadai say, that “obedience is God’s love language.” And in my personal times of struggling to obey Him, it’s my relationship with Him that is somehow being hindered. It’s usually me not spending enough time with Him, just like in any other friendship when together time is lacking. A disconnect happens.
God reminds us that he prefers obedience over offering Him the best sacrifice. Our best sacrifice isn’t as good as just doing what He asks us to do. Finally, my questions took me to a place where Jesus tells us that He gives us the power to become the sons of God. Becoming what God wants us to be is a process, and we don’t “become” without His help or in our limited strength. Wow! What a wonderful promise we can rely on.
For everyone who is born into this world, there is one appointment that we are going to have to show up for. We don’t like to talk about it, but our time on this earth will one day end. Whether we have an illness that could point to a more predictable date of death, whether we are part of what we call the rapture of the saints, or whether the timing of our death is an unknown, it matters not. I realized the frailness and unpredictability of life and that my diagnosis didn’t change a thing. I needed to do what I always knew to do. Simply know what He wants me to do, become what I’m created to be, and out of a love relationship between us just do what He asks me to do. He promises to provide me with the means of making this possible.
